(146) Zendo –the place where you sit

Of course the temples have a special place to sit (i.e. to do zazen) –what did you think? The thing is that I couldn’t take a picture of Kasuisai’s zendo (禅堂) so this picture is from the temple we used to go the previous years, Tokei-in also in Shizuoka; Kasuisai’s was the same but much bigger. I believe you don’t need much explanation, do you? You sit on the round pillow (it’s called a “zafu”/座蒲) you turn and face the wall and –that’s it.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr)
