Founded in 1627, it is the biggest shrine in Tokyo dedicated to the deity Hachiman (八幡) that is related to war. More famous for its relationship with sumo (during the Edo period this is where the sumo tournaments that are the basis for contemporary sumo held) and for its matsuri/festival which is held every August and is considered one of the biggest in Tokyo.
