(2270) And here's what I mean...

 ...when I say that New Year's decorations at homes are much less spectacular: a small kadomatsu/門松 (three bamboo with pine and plum blossoms, a triptych called "sho-chiku-bai/松竹梅" and is considered auspicious) with white and red zigzag-shaped shide (紙垂) paper streamers like those used in Shinto shrines, the wish "Gasho"  (賀正) i.e. "Happy New Year" and a small kagami mochi (see here). Total height, about 8 inches.
