(2268) New Year's in Asakusa

Nihon_arekore_02294_Oshogatsu_Sanja_100_cl

The three omikoshi of Asakusa Jinja shrine, symbolizing the three kami/deities enshrined there and are responsible for the founding of Sensoji, the Buddhist temple next door in one of the few times (outside the Sanja Matsuri festival) they are publicly displayed. And because of the occasion, with a set of New Year's decorations, more spectacular than those you see in most homes!

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
