(2269) New Year's in Asakusa, cont'd

As I have often said in the past, the Sanja Matsuri festival isn't just an Asakusa Jinja shrine affair. All Asakusa is involved in it, so the Ginza Line station also houses an omikoshi, that of the neighborhood called Asakusa Higashi (浅草東), one of the area's most central -it's the neighborhood including the Kaminarimon Gate and the station itself. Here too the omikoshi is decorated with New Year's decorations that will stay until January 11, the day called "Kagami Biraki" (鏡開き).

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
