(3360) Poritomo-kun

Nihon_Arekore_03393_Kamakura_Poritomo_kun_100_cl

Or "ポリともくん" from "porisu"(ポリス) which means, of course, "police" and "Yoritomo" (頼朝), the name of the first Kamakura shogun, Minamoto no Yoritomo (源 頼朝, 1147-1199). It is the samurai-mascot of Kamakura police, here on a sign looking like the ofuda (お札)  talismans temples and shrines give for homes, posted next to a bank's ATMs to protect clients from frauds. I.e. to remind them to be alert.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore 2" set on Flickr).
