...in Chigasaki, this time in the form of Eboshimaro (えぼし麻呂), the city's mascot. Eboshi (烏帽子/えぼし) are the hats worn by persons of high rank in old Japan (and are still worn by Shinto priests and other people who dress that way) and here it refers to the rock Eboshi-Iwa (えぼし岩) which is offshore Chigasaki beach and has that shape. Other than his eboshi, Eboshimaro is dressed in Hawaiian clothes and the sign around his neck says "welcome" in English and Hawaiian --but not in Japanese.
