(1853) Speaking seriously about samurai and their culture, though...


...at the northern side of the Aizu-Wakamatsu castle there is an old-style martial arts practice hall (aka "dojo"/道場) built in 1934 and named "Butokuden"  (武徳殿) i.e. "Hall of Martial Virtue" so it would bring to mind the one in Kyoto which, since 1899 has been one of the centers of that city's martial arts' scene.


That day there was no practice...


...other than a couple of archers who were shooting at the smaller archery building, next door. The plastic sheet (with the holes allowing the arrows to pass) was an improvised solution for dealing with the snow.
