(53) Asakusa Sanja Matsuri (I): O-mikoshi

A central element in Japanese fairs (matsuri) is the procession of portable shirnes/palanquins (o-mikoshi) from the central shrine, around the shrines “parish” and back. In Sanja Matsuri, about 100 of these small shrines (like the one in the photo) are being paraded in the first day and three big ones in the second.
