Nihon_arekore_02177_Shinobazu_100_cl

At Ueno Park, in Shinobazu Pond(不忍池) the lotuses start to open and the sight is worth the (very) early rise. In the back, Bentendo (弁天堂) the temple dedicated to Benten or Benzaiten (弁天/弁財天), the only woman in the group of the seven gods of good fortune aka Shichifukujin (七福神) -Benten's temples are often in lakes or near water.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr. And for more pictures of the lotuses in Ueno, there is a separate album, also on Flickr, here).
