(2107) Sweet mini-sculptures

Nihon_arekore_02128_Nerikiri_100_cl

I was sure I had written about them before but I couldn't find them anywhere. They are called "nerikiri" (練り切り), they are sweets that go with tea (both in sado and in more casual events) and the imagination of their creators is really limitless although flowers are the preferred theme; some day I must find a very nice series of pictures I have with a guy making a chrysanthemum nerikiri. The small tool under them is for eating them and is called "kashiyoji" (菓子楊枝) or "kashikiri" (菓子切り) that is "sweets' toothpick" or "sweets' knife", respectively.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
