Ueno Station often hosts various events to promote various areas from all over Japan; here one such event for Tohoku (東北), the northeastern part of Honshu where Aomori (青森) also is. As I have written before, Aomori is the home of a spectacular festival called Nebuta (ねぶた), held in early August and featuring some enormous floats with scenes made of paper that is being lighted from the inside. One such figure is this Sakata Kintoki (坂田金/公時), the adult version of the main character of one of Japan's most famous fairy tales, Kintaro (金太郎). The difference is that if this was Nebuta he would had been about ten times bigger!
