(3523) At the shrine's entrance...

...a monument with lions on stones brought from Mt. Fuji: one of the deities enshrined in Afuri Jinja, Oyamatsumi no Kami (大山津見神) is the father of the deity Konohanasakuya-hime (木花之佐久夜毘売), enshrined at Mt. Fuji. As for lions, they were one of the favorite themes for offerings in the Edo Period although the particular ones are from 2012. Ta small statues in the perimeter are the 12 animals of the Chinese and Japanese zodiac circle.
