(1878) Aizu leftovers (4): And the room itself

I had posted on Facebook a picture of it from my cellphone when we were there, but I wanted to have one in the blog too so here it is. Incidentally, and although many people believe the opposite, this isn't in some traditional and picturesque ryokan (旅館) style inn: it's just the Japanese-style room of a big hotel -the kind you usually find around onsen hot springs.

(1878) Παραλειπόμενα από το Αϊζού (4): Και το ίδιο το δωμάτιο

Είχα ανεβάσει μια φωτογραφία του στο Facebook από το κινητό όταν ήμασταν εκεί, όμως ήθελα να έχω μια και στο μπλογκ οπότε να 'το. Παρεμπιπτόντως, και παρότι πολύς κόσμος πιστεύει το αντίθετο, το δωμάτιο δεν είναι σε κάποιο γραφικό　και παραδοσιακό πανδοχείο τύπου ριοκάν (旅館): είναι απλώς το ιαπωνικού τύπου δωμάτιο σε ένα μεγάλο ξενοδοχείο από αυτά που συνήθως βρίσκει κανείς γύρω από τις θερμές πηγές ονσέν.

(1877) Aizu leftovers (3): Thank you notes

Again at the onsen's room, a note thanking us for choosing the particular hotel for our stay, decorated with "Okiagari-koboshi" (起き上がり小法師), Fukushima's Daruma that we mentioned a few days back. Printed of course on handmade washi paper and accompanied by a small Okiagari-koboshi we could take as a souvenir.

(1877) Παραλειπόμενα από το Αϊζού (3): Ευχαριστήρια σημειώματα

Πάλι στο δωμάτιο του ονσέν, ένα σημείωμα που μας ευχαριστεί που επιλέξαμε το συγκεκριμένο ξενοδοχείο για τη διαμονή μας, διακοσμημένο με τον "Οκιαγάρι-κομπόσι" (起き上がり小法師) , τον Νταρούμα της Φουκουσίμα για τον οποίο λέγαμε προ ημερών. Τυπωμένο, βεβαίως σε χειροποίητο χαρτί ουάσι και συνοδευόμενο από έναν μικρό Οκιαγάρι-κομπόσι που μπορούσαμε να πάρουμε για σουβενίρ.

(1876) Aizu leftovers (2): Treats

At the onsen's room, wonderful manju buns filled with milk cream and squid and carrot-flavored senbei crackers; observant readers might have noticed that for the latter I didn't use "wonderful".

(1876) Παραλειπόμενα από το Αϊζού (2): Κεράσματα

Στο δωμάτιο του ονσέν, ωραιότατα νωπά "μπισκοτα" μάντζου με γέμιση κρέμα γάλακτος και κράκερ σεμπέι με γεύση καλαμάρι και καρότο -οι προσεκτικοί αναγνώστες θα παρατήρησαν ότι για τα δεύτερα δε χρησιμοποίησα το "ωραιότατα".

(1875) Aizu leftovers (1): Pokemon

And to be precise, Pokemon train and to be even more precise, "POKÉMON with YOU" train running between the towns of Ichinoseki (一関市) and Kesennuma (気仙沼). We only saw the advertising poster at the station since these areas are not in Fukushima but in neighboring Iwate (岩手) and Miyagi (宮城) rspectively. One idea about what it is, you can get through its web page by JR, the company that operates it; needless to say that I'm very sorry we didn't have the opportunity to use it.

(1875) Παραλειπόμενα από το Αϊζού (1): Πόκεμον

Και για την ακρίβεια, τρένο Πόκεμον και για την περισσότερη ακρίβεια τρένο "POKÉMON with YOU" το οποίο τρέχει μεταξύ των πόλεων Ιτσινοσέκι (一関市) και Κεσενούμα (気仙沼). Είδαμε μόνο τη διαφήμιση στον σταθμό καθώς στην πραγματικότητα οι περιοχές αυτές δεν είναι στην Φουκουσίμα αλλά στα γειτονικά Ιουάτε (岩手) και Μιγιάγκι (宮城) αντίστοιχα. Μια ιδέα για το τι είναι πάντως, μπορεί να πάρει κανείς στο σχετικό σάιτ της εταιρείας JR που το λειτουργεί· περιττό να πω ότι λυπάμαι πολύ που δεν το είχαμε την ευκαιρία να το χρησιμοποιήσουμε.

(1874) And in the return train...

...a sake called  "Kitakata Ramen Sake" (喜多方ラーメン酒) with a surtitle "The local sake of brewery town" (蔵の町の地酒). Yes we drank it in the train but no, without ramen.

(1874) Και στο τρένο της επιστροφής...

...ένα σάκε που η μάρκα του είναι "Κιτακάτα Ράμεν Σάκε"(喜多方ラーメン酒) με υπέρτιτλο "Το σάκε της πόλης των ποτοποιών σάκε" (蔵の町の地酒). Ναι, το ήπιαμε στο τρένο αλλά όχι, χωρίς ράμεν.

(1873) Like almost everywhere in Aizu...

...Kitakata has enough sake breweries. We visited Yamatogawa (大和川), founded in 1790 and continuing to make sake since then. The building both exterior and interior is somewhat keeping an atmosphere of bygone times...

...although the bottles certainly give out a more contemporary note. 

Like always, there is a bar to try some of their products after the tour (for the record they were very good)...

...and a fountain with water from the spring used for sake.

And of course the ubiquitous sakadaru sake casks.
