(2977) Back to Tokyo

Nihon_Arekore_03006_Future_Nihonbashi_100_cl

And when we say "Tokyo" we mean its historical center, Nihonbashi bridge. The photo isn't a photo but the photo of an illustration of how the bridge will look when the enormous task of moving the highway overpass that is, well, over it, under the river is completed. On the back, you can see that the plan is to also make a wooden bridge, parallel to the concrete one so that it will be the way it was in the Edo Period. As to when all these wonderful things will happen, it is clearly written on the upper left corner: in 2000 something. (To be fair, the project has begun -as a matter of fact, the illustration is posted on its fencing together with other images and information about Nihonbashi and its importance- but it is indeed huge and involves, among other things, shutting down one of the country's main highways for a long period of time.)

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
