And since on Christmas I had a picture of Takashimaya's tree, here's a picture of their New Year's decoration; this time it's not from the Nihonbashi store but from that in Yokohama. These decorations are called "kadomatsu" (門松) and pretty much all big stores -and often big companies- have them.

Και μια και τα Χριστούγεννα είχα φωτογραφία με το δέντρο του Τακασιμάγια, να και μια φωτογραφία από το πρωτοχρονιάτικο στολίδι του αλλά αυτή τη φορά όχι από το Νιχονμπάσι αλλά από τη Γιοκοχάμα. Τα στολίδια αυτού του στιλ λέγονται "καντομάτσου" (門松) και τα έχουν λίγο-πολύ όλα τα μεγάλα μαγαζιά και συχνά και οι μεγάλες εταιρείες.

2026 is the Year of the Horse so the shops selling decorations have a variety of horses in all kinds of designs, sizes and colors that will be bought and go into houses and shops, often also in their entrance, and stay there for the next 365 days.

In Japan it's customary to eat cake on Christmas. Usually they are simple white ones with strawberries or chocolate but sometimes, like this one we got this year, they are a little more imaginative.

Στην Ιαπωνία υπάρχει το έθιμο να τρως τούρτα για την ημέρα των Χριστουγέννων. Συνήθως είναι απλές είτε λευκές με φράουλες, είτε σοκολάτα αλλά μερικές φορές, όπως αυτή εδώ που πήραμε φέτος, είναι κάπως πιο ευφάνταστες.

Tokyo doesn't have one main Christmas tree but this one at the KITTE Marunouchi (KITTE丸の内) complex next to Tokyo Station is one of the main. Merry Christmas!
