(2288) Meats with a meaning

Nihon_arekore_02314_Katsu_and_exams_100_cl

These days the college entrance exams are held  -these exams are called "juken" (受験). Victory in Japanese is called "katsu" (勝つ) which is also the word for the thick deep-fried pork cutlet -that though is written "カツ" which is short for "katsuretsu" ((カツレツ) which is the Japanese reading for "cutlet". So a Daruma, the symbol for resilience against life's difficulties and for striving to achieve your goals, holding a pencil and saying "juken ni katsu" i.e. "victory in the exams" is the best illustration for a "katsu". Which cost 398 ($3.79) but was on half-price offer because there had been six hours since the time it was cooked.
