(2944) Osaka 69: But culture too

Nihon_arekore_02973_Osaka_69_Dotonbori_Osaka_Shochikuza_100_cl

Dotonbori isn't just food and huge signs: it's also Kabuki --this is the Osaka Shochikuza (大阪松竹座) theater which stages Kabuki and also other theatrical genres and even opera. It was the first Western-style theater that opened in the broader Kansai region, in 1923 and, oddly, managed to survive the WWII bombings so it has remained pretty much much the same for the last 100 years. (The weird picture is because the street is narrow and I don't have a wide- angle lens.)

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
