A walk in Kamakura couldn't be missing a pass from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮), the city's main shrine founded by shogun Minamoto Yoritomo (源頼朝) in 1180 (actually the shrine existed since 120 years before that but it was at a different location and worshipped a different deity). And if possible combined with something related to the martial arts since Hachiman, the deity worshipped now is the god of war. This group was returning from the school of kyudo (弓道) archery on the shrine's grounds and found them the time both me and them were leaving --it was the first time I saw Japanese archers on the street and seeing them and being able to take their picture at that place had made me really happy!
(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
