...that this year is celebrating its 50th independence anniversary (it was returned to Japan in 1972 after 20 years of American occupation that followed the 7 years of Japan's occupation after WWII), perhaps the most typical sweet, at least for the mainland (ha!) Japanese: purple yam tart aka "beni imo taruto" (紅芋タルト).
