Today is Seijin no Hi or "Coming of Age Day", one of Japan's national holidays dedicated to young people who became or will become 20 years from April 2 last year until April 1 this year. According to the custom, girls wear kimono with very wide sleeves called "furisode" and boys suits and go to events called "seijin shiki" i.e. "coming of age ceremonies" usually organized by local governments and to various parties. Of course this year most of these events were cancelled but nevertheless in Ginza we came across a few of these girls in furisode -like this one.
Incidentally, "Nihon Arekore" has some time to go before its adulthood: it only became ten years old yesterday.
