And it started so well. Our friend, Yoko-san had cooked all these wonderful things and had found us a good spot at a friend’s home right next to the river so we could see the Sumida River fireworks as clearly as possible. If only the weather had behaved in a less Japanese way and it had been as hot as it should for late July: with the first firework came a heavy rain and the event was cancelled for the first time in decades. The food was good though…
