They are called “age-manju” (あげまんじゅう/揚げ饅頭) and they are a variety of mocha rice-cakes; the difference is that they are deep fried and eaten as hot as possible. These, cream-filled ones are the tastier I’ve tried: the shop is in Asakusa (yeah, I know, I’m boring but if all goes well, I’m bound to become way more boring) and it is called “Kokonoe” (九重)
