(2472) The absolute bag

Nihon_arekore_02497_Randoseru_100_cl

Its name is somewhat exotic -it's called "randoseru" (ランドセル) and the word probably comes from the Dutch "ransel" which means "backpack"- but it's one of the most common objects you see in Japan since it's used by all elementary school students. It's quite expensive (the cheapest I've seen are at 350$ but an average price is 600$) but the concept is that you buy one at first grade and it lasts until sixth grade and its manufacturing quality confirms it.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
