(2154) Seasonal eels

As I was saying on Instagram, yesterday was the Midsummer Day of the Ox (Doyo no Ushi no Hi/土用の丑の日) on which the Japanese are customarily eating grilled eel. Here, in one of the super-markets in our neighborhood, the eels section, specially created for the day with matching decoration -the signs on the lanterns and the fans say "eel" (unagi/鰻, うなぎ) and yes, we all know what else "unagi" means (or doesn't mean).

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
