...of Hanamaki is Kenji Miyazawa (宮沢 賢治, 1896-1933), poet and author of children's books. Around the railway station there are several monuments with references to his works like here, to "Night on the Galactic Railorad"...
...or here, to "Gauche the Cellist".
And if you come across this silhouette, this is Miyazawa himself.
