Nebuta floats, made of painted paper and cloth are a trademark of Aomori Prefecture, in the north of Honshu right across Hokkaido; as a matter of fact, every summer, in the first week of August there is a very famous festival held there called “Nebuta Matsuri” (I said “famous”, not “imaginatively named”). I don’t know why one of those floats decided to drop by Ayase’s town fair but it certainly was amazing.
