...(or in Japanese スカジャン) which means "jumper/jacket from Yokosuka"; Yokosuka is a city in Kanagawa which still has a big American army base and these jackets were fashionable among American soldiers during the occupation (1945-1952). Back then, they would make them using the silk from parachute canopies, give to the Japanese who would embroider them with various designs resembling traditional Japanese tattoos and then took them back to the US ass souvenirs (even today they are often called "souvenir jackets"). Since then they have been going in and out of fashion, in Japan and abroad and you can get them in many places, not just Yokosuka. In Tokyo, one such spot and perhaps the most well-known, is the Ameyoko market in Ueno.
