And to finish, something from Kitakata's station (I think: maybe it was from Aizu-Wakamatsu's): there was no escalator to go from one side to the station to the other so the station staff had put up stickers with encouraging messages to the passengers that had to climb up the regular staircase. The messages in the picture above read:
-We are sorry there is only a regular staircase
-There are 32 steps in total
-On a good-weather day you can see the (nearby) Iide mountain range
And in the next:
-This is the 21st step
-A little more and it's over -cheer up!
For those wondering, the other stickers say "up" and give platform information. But these can be found in all stations.
