As happens in all highly urbanized countries, all the Japanese talk nostalgically about their hometowns (the Japanese word is “furusato” or “ふるさと”) and react in a very sentimental way to everything reminding them that they come from somewhere else. This sentimentalism guarantees the success of various local products like these biscuits that come from Aomori (青森) Prefecture, the most northern prefecture of Honshu Island and part of the Tohoku region that was struck by the big earthquake of 2011. The design is the prefecture’s shape and the red dot symbolizes the apple for which Aomori is famous.
