(2137) From Tokyo to Tokyo via Athens

After two months (thank you, Covid-19) I have finally in my hands, my (Greek language only: sorry folks) book "Letters from a floating world" and I couldn't resist the temptation to take a picture of it in front of Kaminarimon Gate, symbol of Asakusa, Tokyo and in a way, my relationship with Japan. For the record, the book's cover picture was taken at a spot just a three-minute walk from this; at this spot, but from a slightly different angle, I also took the picture for the "Letter" about Asakusa which didn't make it to the book though -perhaps in volume two!

(2137) Από το Τόκιο, στο Τόκιο, μέσω Αθήνας

Μετά από δύο μήνες (τα καλά του Covid-19) κατάφερα επιτέλους να πιάσω στα χέρια μου το βιβλίο μου, "Γράμματα από έναν αιωρούμενο κόσμο" και δεν μπόρεσα να αντισταθώ στον πειρασμό να το βγάλω μια φωτογραφία (για την ακρίβεια, να τη βγάλει η Άτσουκο) μπροστά στην πύλη Καμιναριμόν, σύμβολο της Ασακούσα, του Τόκιο και από μια άποψη, της σχέσης μου με την Ιαπωνία. Για την ιστορία, η φωτογραφία του εξωφύλλου έχει τραβηχτεί τρία λεπτά με τα πόδια από αυτό  το σημείο -επίσης εδώ αλλά από λίγο διαφορετική γωνία, τράβηξα πριν από οκτώ χρόνια, τη φωτογραφία που συνοδεύει το "Γράμμα" για την Ασακούσα που ωστόσο, δεν μπήκε στο βιβλίο. Ίσως στον δεύτερο τόμο!

(2136) Money goes to money

So Japan's largest bank, Mitsubishi group's MUFG has a good reason to have in front of its entrance in Nihonbashi a statue of Daikokuten (大黒天), one of the seven gods of good fortune, specializing in wealth. According to the inscription, the statue is free for touching by passersby -apparently the bank doesn't want to monopolize the good fortune he brings.

(2136) Τα λεφτά πάνε στα λεφτά

Οπότε η μεγαλύτερη τράπεζα της Ιαπωνίας, η MUFG, του ομίλου Mitsubishi δικαιολογείται να έχει στην είσοδό της στο Νιχονμπάσι ένα άγαλμα του Νταϊκοκουτέν (大黒天), ενός από τους επτά θεούς της καλής τύχης που υποτίθεται ότι ειδικεύεται στον πλούτο. Σύμφωνα με την επιγραφή, το άγαλμα προσφέρεται στους περαστικούς για άγγιγμα -φαίνεται ότι η τράπεζα δεν θέλει να μονοπωλήσει την καλή τύχη που φέρνει.

(2135) If you don't read the fine print...

...it seems funny. If you do, it's somewhat touching: they are children's encouraging messages to athletes for the Olympic (and here, the Paralympic) Games. The company is once again Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) or "Kuroneko Yamato" (クロネコヤマト), Japan's biggest door-to-door delivery service company.

(2135) Aν δεν διαβάσεις τα ψιλά γράμματα...

...σου φαίνεται αστείο. Αν τα διαβάσεις, είναι κάπως συγκινητικό: είναι μηνύματα ενθάρρυνσης που έχουν γράψει μικρά παιδιά σε διάφορους αθλητές εν όψει των Ολυμπιακών (και εδώ, των Παραολυμπιακών) Aγώνων. Η εταιρεία είναι για μια ακόμα φορά η Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) ή "Κούρο-νέκο Γιαμάτο" (クロネコヤマト), η μεγαλύτερη εταιρεία ταχυμεταφορών στην Ιαπωνία.

(2133) Of all the Japanese shoes...

...I've featured in Nihon Arekore, these are probably the most impressive. At the lobby of Marunouchi Building to promote the Marunouchi Fashion Week -the week was in March but you know: epidemics, coronas etc. so they're still there.

(2133) Από όλα τα ιαπωνικά παπούτσια...

...που έχω φιλοξενήσει στο Nihon Arekore, αυτά είναι πιθανότατα τα πιο εντυπωσιακά. Στό λόμπι του Κτιρίου Μαρουνοούτσι για την προώθηση της Εβδομάδας Μόδας Μαρουνοούτσι -η εβδομάδα ήταν τον Μάρτιο αλλά ξέρετε: επιδημίες, κορώνες κ.λπ. οπότε είναι ακόμα εκεί.

(2132) Even in Akihabara

You can't not have suits shops -at least of the big chains like Aoyama (青山). Although some would say that they don't exactly fit in the environment.
