...is a big thing and this is why in Japan there is a public holiday about it (Seijin no Hi/成人の日, literally "coming of age day") that is celebrated on the second Monday January and where those who became/will become 20 years old between last April 1st and this one, participate in various events held by municipalities and prefectures. In these events, girls usually wear very flamboyant kimono with long hanging-down sleeves (furisode/振袖) --like this one today in Asakusa's Rokku Broadway
