The character "do" or "michi" (道), the Japanese version of what the Chinese call "tao" or "dao" and which means literally and figuratively "road", is known from martial arts (kendo/剣道, judo/柔道 etc.) but also from other expressions of Japanese culture including sado/茶道 (what some people call "tea ceremony"), shodo/書道 calligraphy or kado/華道 flower arrangements (also known as "ikebana"). Here in the name of an izakaya (居酒屋) tavern on the red lantern which is characteristic of these establishments --and you are free to make your own associations.
