(2741) The pagoda of Kaneiji...

...(寛永寺) temple, in Ueno park; the temple was destroyed in in July 1868, in the battle of Ueno which was the largest combat that happened in Edo/Tokyo between the forces of the Tokugawa shogun and those of the Meiji emperor. The Tokugawa shogunate fell, the emperor took over the rule of the country, Kaneiji's grounds became Ueno Park and the pagoda was moved in the zoo that is in the park. If I'm not mistaken, there are six five-story pagodas in Tokyo and two of them are in our ward, Taito: this is the one and the other is that of Sensoji in Asakusa.
