(1724) Nara is famous...


...for the Kasuga Taisha (春日大社) shrine, one of the oldest (it was established in 768) and most important (it was the shrine of the powerful Fujiwara/藤原 clan) shrines in Japan.


In turn it's famous for the numerous lanterns, donated by worshipers that can be found in its precincts. (Incidentally, the lanterns are called "toro/灯籠".)
