Across the street from yesterday's coffee house, a Shinto shrine whose torii gate was worth the picture just for the contrast between the red and the snow. (Incidentally this style of torii called "ryobu torii/両部鳥居" is rather unusual so I would had probably taken the picture even without the snow.)

Απέναντι από το χτεσινό καφέ, ένας σιντοϊστικός ναός η πύλη τόριι του οποίου άξιζε τη φωτογραφία μόνο και μόνο για την αντίθεση του κόκκινου με το χιόνι. (Παρεμπιπτόντως, αυτό το στιλ τόριι που λέγεται "ριόμπου τόριι/両部鳥居" είναι αρκετά ασυνήθιστο οπότε θα τράβαγα την φωτογραφία ακόμα και χωρίς το χιόνι.)

A little before the monkey park entrance. And it is the last place to get a cup of coffee before you enter the park.
And the shop's logo is of course what you would expect. (Incidentally, the shop had a very good apple pie that we had for breakfast the next day.)

The whole town (which is called Yamanouchi/山ノ内 -literally: in the mountains) is taking the matter of the monkeys very seriously.

Since it is going to the monkeys, the train is called "Snow Monkey Express"...
...and even the driver has a small monkey on the dashboard so there won't be any doubt...
...as if the other monkey on the side leaves any room for doubt.
And because the Japanese cannot resist a pun, the train's reserved room is called "Spa Saloon" but written "Spa 猿～ん" because "猿" means "monkey" and is read "saru" which in Japanese is the same as "salu".
