One reason we went to Nagano instead of any other hot spring town/onsen (温泉) is because there is there a park with monkeys of the Japanese macaque species (aka "nihon-zaru" or ニ ホ ン ザ ル/ 日本猿). The park is quite popular so there is a special ticket for the train that takes you from Nagano to Yudanaka (湯田中), the closest station to it, for the bus that takes you to the park's entrance and for the park itself --the ticket is good for two days and you can use it as many times as you want.
(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr).
