Ceramic balls that you put in a vessel filled with water and let them float and bump into each other -when they do, they make sounds that vary depending on the size and the whole thing creates a wonderful peaceful atmosphere. They are called "ukidama" (浮き玉) which literally translates "floating balls"; sometimes when it comes to names, the Japanese have the imagination of Leonard of Quirm.
