For the last two months, the enormous red paper lantern of Sensoji temple’s Kaminarimon (雷門) gate, one of the (few) landmarks of Tokyo had been taken down and a photograph had been hanged in its place, apparently to compensate for its absence. Today the lantern will return ceremonially so the picture featured today is a rare document of the gate without it.
