...(浅草橋), the neighborhood a little to the south of Asakusa, famous for its doll shops which have been there since the Edo Period (1600-1868), a set of twelve dolls-Japanese zodiac animals dressed as samurai; the dolls are made in the kimekomi (木目込み) style where the fabric that is the doll's clothes is squeezed in an intricate network of grooves that the artisan makes on its wooden body.
