New Year cards called “nengajo” (年賀状) are sold almost everywhere until a few days before the end of December and almost all Japanese buy dozens of them and send them to friends and relatives for the first day of the new year; Japanese Post guarantees that they will all be delivered anywhere in Japan on January 1st.
