This year the organizers of Sanja Matsuri did something very clever: the set at the Matsuya department store a small exhibition with the hanten (半纏), the jackets worn during the festival by the members of the 44 chokai (町会) Asakusa's neighborhood organizations; it was the first time I saw something line that and it was an opportunity to see in one place the colors of all 44 neighborhoods that make up the matsuri. In the last picture are the respective official chokai tenugui that are used as headbands but also as gifts between them --and as souvenirs for visitors.
(For a bigger version of these pictures both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore 2" set on Flickr).
